The First Streaks of Dawn

Meanwhile, in Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Herman van der Sman, MSC, a Catechetics expert from Holland, motivated the young ladies to be involved in the catechetical work of the parish. He had in mind the idea of forming catechists in the barrios. Among his first contacts were Zenaida Famador and Ana Dultra both were teachers in Candelaria Institute of Cabadbaran, Paz Geotina from Dinagat, Surigao del Norte, Priscilla Cagang a “star” catechist from Los Angeles, Butuan City ang Angelita Bacleon also a catechist from Cabadbaran. All were members of Legion of Mary. He also brought into the group a Surigaonon contact of Bishop Ouwelant, Cipriana Acosta a teacher whom he asked to teach at the Summer Catechetical Institute that he organized. This common activity with Fr. Van der Sman reinforced the desire of these young ladies to become religious Sisters. Such also became the seed of a religious congregation soon to grow.

MSM LIFE AND MISSION

Social Services
Following the option of Christ, our mission focuses on the most destitute, afflicted and alienated. Supportive of this principle is the vision of the Founding Fathers of the Institute to include Social Services evolving from the needs that arise from the socio-economic political order.

About Us

Founded: February 11, 1958

Our Charism: Compassion and solidarity with the poor and all of creation.

Marian Spirituality:

Our spirituality is that of Mary's, in her journey with Christ from Incarnation to His Passion, Death, resurrection and throughout the life of the Church. Mary's affinity with the Anawim in her time, made her proclaim in her prophetic voice, "He has cast down the mighty from their thrones and lifted up the lowly. He filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich empty"(Lk. 1:54-53) We echo this Magnificat as we joyfully and faithfully take the side of the poo (MSM Constitution#8).

Our Marian Spirituality urges us to rediscover and enflesh the prophetic qualities of Mary within the context of the societal and cosmic realities. This is our contribution to the Church.

Our Mission

1. We, the Missionary Sisters of Mary commit ourselves to:

2. Live a simple lifestyle that upholds kin-dom values;

3. Immerse in communities as leaven in the communities of believers;

4. Evangelize through Catechetics, Christian Formation (School and Parishes), BEC, Social Services and other ministries to the basic sectors;

5. Care and promote integrity of culture and creation;

Undertake missions in the Philippines and other countries, as we joyfully echo the Magnificat of Mary;

Sr. Angie's Corner

This week I talked about the overloading of information. In a time when anything and everything is just a click away how do we take a step back and focus on the principles of our faith?

While exploring the question of “What would Jesus do?” in today’s media crazed world, we reflects on the changing state of family and community over the past few decades.

If you didn’t manage to come to our retreat and to our praise and worship, at least attend to bible studies in your parish.
